We enjoyed the first couple years of being a newly married couple. We took many cruises in the Caribbean, we traveled to Europe with Erik’s parents, and his sisters family to learn a little bit about their heritage and we also enjoyed some skiing trips. It was the typical “Happy Honeymoon” being the first couple of years of marriage. However we knew our family was incomplete, we wanted children. For whatever unknown reasons, we were unable to create our family in the normal way.
After trying various fertility treatments and Doctors without success, we came to the decision to adopt. To us, the overwhelming importance is to be a family. The method in which we became that family is secondary. We then created a profile similar to this one and a birthmother found us, and chose to place her child with us.
Edith, (our birth mothers name) was truly Heaven sent, having placed her child with us, she is forever in our thoughts and prayers. Amazingly enough she had picked the very same name for her baby, Aleksander, and she also picked the less common spelling as we did.
The last three years of parenting have been amazing. Watching Alek grow from a little baby into the child he is today. He continues to amaze and surprise us on a daily basis.
We like to read to him every night, sometimes two or three stories. We have been doing this since his first night in our home. Aleksander loves his books. Between the two of us we have 8 nieces and nephews so we got handed down a library of books in addition to the ones we bought, it’s a new tale every night. He even tries to shares his books with the family cat. He is a very bright 3 year old he knows his colors, shapes, animals and numbers and much more. He catches us off-guard all the time with what he says and knows.
He also likes his toys, and enjoys his Thomas the Train set, various building block sets, cars and puzzles. Outside he loves his soccer ball, T-Ball, Tricycle, his little battery powered quad and taking exploration walks or just rolling in the grass. He is also a very adept climber so we have to watch him closely. He is a content happy little boy who often will break into song for no reason. He likes to sing anything from the wheels on the bus to the alphabet song or Old MacDonald.
We always feed Aleksander’s inquisitive nature. Whether on vacation or at home we always like to find fun and intersting things to do. When we were recently in Cancun, Mexico we went to an Eco-Park complete with Monkeys, Flamingo’s, Sting Rays, Exotic Birds and much more. While we have seen these sites ourselves before, it is amazing to see them again through the eyes of our son. Locally we have hands-on Kid-Science museums and kid friendly activities which help his inquisitive nature. Were always checking out the “What to Do” section of our areas web-site and always picking out activities. We can’t wait to start hitting the fairs with rides & attractions.
The last three years have been a blessing and nothing can replace it. We would like to give Alek a brother or sister he can grow up with and develop the important bonds of a sibling relationship. For ourselves we want to continue to enjoy the joys of being parents.
